A tragic road accident in Kafuta has resulted in one confirmed death and 44 injuries, the police confirmed yesterday.

The police said emergency services responded promptly when a truck apparently drove into a crowd of celebrating football fans on Sunday evening.

“We can confirm that 44 individuals were involved, and tragically, one fatality has been confirmed, while 43 others sustained injuries,” the police statement said.

The police added that many of the injured have been referred to Ndemban Clinic for further medical attention while investigations into the matter go on.

Earlier this afternoon, Hon. Chairman presented assorted medications worth more than D30,000 to 20 victims of the Kafuta road accident currently admitted at Ndemban clinic.

A cash amount of almost D12,000 was also reimbursed to the parents of the victims for medical expenses they incurred since their admission.

The Council will continue to support the victims through their recovery process, and we appeal to the philanthropists, individuals, and institutions to collaborate with us to render adequate support to the victims for their speedy recovery.
