Allagie Cham Joof aka Sir Jackal former Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) Sergeant Officer and now deputy party leader of the opposition All People’s Party (APP) has made strong calls on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to immediately resign from their roles for failing to provide the requisite security for the people of the country.

The former Army Sergeant also called on President Adama Barrow to dismiss the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Interior for allowing concurrent security lapses in the country that resulted in the loss of life and properties along the borders.

He made this call on Tuesday, 14th February 2023, while reacting to a recent attack on the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) Guard Post at Fass Njaga Choi, where one PIU Officer sustained gunshot wounds during an armed robbery operation that also resulted in the stealing of a gun by the robbers.

“I want to address my Statement to the Ministries of Defence and Interior for the fact that the IGP is under the Ministry of Interior and the CDS under the defense. These two people (IGP and CDS) should be able to provide the needed security of the country because we have enough army officers and enough police officers but still they cannot provide security to the Gambian people,” Sir Jackal observed.

He added “The reason for the insecurity situation in the country is because the IGP and CDS are not doing their job. Looking at the current security situation of the country I, Sir Jackal is hereby calling on the IGP and CDS to voluntarily resign for failing to perform your duties.”

According to him, the armed robbery attack at Fass Njaga Choi witnessed, for the first time in Gambian history, to see a Security officer beaten and his guns confiscated at a Check Point, adding that attack further exposes the lack of adequate training and equipment provided to security officers working around the border areas.

“Only in the Gambia, you have a Checkpoint with only one security officer even if he is armed one or two people can easily disarm him. We can only thank God that the paramilitary officer was not killed all because of inefficient and bad leadership of the police and the army,” APP Deputy Party Leader blasted.
