Ahmad Gitteh, Independent Candidate for BAC

Independent candidate, Ahmad Gitteh, has in an extensive interview on Kerr Fatou posited that the National People’s Party candidate for Brikama Area Council chairman, Seedy Ceesay, will not win the race in the upcoming Local Government election.

“The party does not belong to the president, and it does not belong to the first family. If anybody thinks that way, you’re fooling yourself. And there wouldn’t be a future for the party if that is anything that anyone believes in. Now the effect of that is just coming out because right now NPP’s win is out of the equation in West Coast. They are not going to win. It’s either me or Yankuba. Write it down. It is either Ahmad Gitteh will win this election or Yankuba Darboe will win this election, NPP is out of the equation,” Gitteh said.

He describes what his party has done to him as ‘injustice’ and ‘irresponsible’, and not inline with the principles of their party;

“What they have done is injustice. What they have done is irresponsible. What they have done is not inline with the principles of our party. Nobody with his right frame of mind would want to take a route as irresponsible as the one some of these people have taken. And the good thing is you have just point 001 percent of the party that is involved. 90 percent of the party militants are with me. I can assure you, even the National executive is divided. The regional executive the last time I checked out of 23, 16 of them voted for me, and they are still with me. They will keep quiet, they will not talk because they know that we built this party. No one person has authority over everybody,” he said.

Ahmad Gitteh was a primary candidate for the National People’s Party (NPP) for the upcoming Brikama Area Council Chairmanship election. He insisted that he won his Party’s first primary to select a candidate. That one ended up in dispute, and Seedy Ceesay was subsequently selected in a rerun of the primary that Gitteh boycotted.
