GAMBIA: ANY CIVIL SERVANT WHO CLAIMS TO BE APOLITICAL ALIGNS WITH THE OPPOSITION

At a combined meeting with representatives from Jimara, Basse, Tumana, and Kantora in the Upper River Region, President Barrow said that any government official who claimed to be apolitical is in league with the opposition.

Speaking to the assembly, he underlined, “A lot of public servants say they are apolitical, but in reality, they are connected to different political parties. Take notice of their names if you visit their offices and they claim to be impartial—they are a member of the opposition. These are people we know and recognize, and we are keeping a careful eye on them.
The Ministry of Public Service, according to President Barrow, is their new tactic for removing unwelcome people from the government. He said that the Public Service Ministry is his poison to deal with these government officials, likening them to insects sneaking into a sack of groundnuts.

“These people are like to insects sneaking into a package of peanuts. It’s like putting poison in the bag—you have to provide a deterrent in order to deal with them properly. The president said, “In this analogy, the public service ministry acts as the poison to handle these individuals.”

“Although the president oversees the position technically, the workload is extensive,” he added, expressing no remorse for founding the Ministry of Public Service. Even while we recognized that adjustments were necessary, we are steadfast in our choice to establish the Ministry of Public Service.

He said to the minister, “We will back you because people work for The Gambia, not just for President Barrow,” assuring support for the ministry. Put up a lot of effort for the nation. Remember that even if you start at 10 a.m. and I start at 8 a.m., I am busier than you. Not President Barrow, but the nation is betrayed when people disregard their responsibilities till 10 a.m. Nothing can stop us from marching on with unrelenting determination.
