Ousainu Darboe, the head of the United Democratic Party, was visited at his Kairaba Avenue office on Thursday by Ms. Sharon L. Cromer, the American ambassador, and Ms. Rebecca Taylor, the chief political and economic officer of the embassy. Lamin Manneh, Deputy Secretary for External Affairs and the Diaspora, provided assistance to Mr. Darboe.

Ambassador Cromer and Mr. Darboe discussed The Gambia’s political, social, economic, and financial circumstances during their hour-long conversation.

The two sides were able to share information and points of view on all of the previously listed topics during the extremely amicable meeting.
In addition to highlighting the main areas of US aid to the nation, Ambassador Cromer disclosed impending new funding in a number of other economic sectors.

The necessity to uphold The Gambia’s democratic institutions and culture, the rule of law, observance of human rights, and freedom of speech and expression were all acknowledged by the two sides. They also agreed that it is imperative to address corruption head-on and present the new constitution for approval by the National Assembly and a referendum that follows.

Lastly, it was decided that Ambassador Cromer and Mr. Darboe would meet often to discuss pertinent matters of shared interest. The two characters gave each other the assurance that they would be available to meet again whenever it was needed before calling their encounter to an end.
