Momodou Sabally, the campaign manager for the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), allegedly spoke with President Adama Barrow over the weekend in an unexpected and shocking turn of events. According to trustworthy sources, Sabally is about to formally declare that he has decided to join President Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP).

Considering that Sabally is regarded as one of the most vocal opponents of President Adama Barrow’s government, this surprising action has drawn notice. His possible conversion to the governing party is a major political turning point.

According to those with knowledge of the matter, Sabally has received an alluring offer from the administration. Momodou Sabally would get a position as the new deputy Managing Director of BSIC Bank and the removal of his lifelong ban from holding public office in exchange for his cooperation.
This calculated action may be seen by President Barrow’s government as a way to silence a well-known opponent and boost its reputation in the political sphere.

It’s unclear how the UDP and its backers will respond. In the past, the UDP has been a strong opponent of President Barrow’s administration, denouncing alleged inadequacies in leadership and policies. UDP supporters may be disappointed and cynical about Sabally’s exit from the party and possible support of the governing party. However, a source close to the United Democratic Party (UDP) says Sabally has already informed the UDP leader of his intentions via a middleman.

As the narrative progresses, all eyes are on Momodou Sabally’s impending declaration, when he is anticipated to formally proclaim his choice to join the NPP and accept the offered position. This event has the potential to drastically alter The Gambia’s political landscape and add even more complication to an already volatile political environment.
