The Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) has requested a meeting with political parties in The Gambia, citing the intensification of tensions between the governing National People’s Party (NPP) and the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP).

“As you are aware, the political climate in our beloved nation has become increasingly tense, particularly between the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and the main opposition, the United Democratic Party (UDP).” The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council has extended an invitation to you, along with a few members of your party executive, to a critical meeting that is intended to address matters of national interest, with a particular emphasis on national peace and stability. This invitation was sent to one of the political parties.

The meeting is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the SIC headquarters located on MDI Road in Kanifing.
