Reportedly, a former enforcer for a Gambian warlord who is implicated in numerous allegations of torture is unrestrictedly residing in Scotland.

Politicians and human rights organisations are demanding immediate action in response to the Sunday Mail’s revelation that Edrissa Jobe, a former intelligence agent residing in a flat in Glasgow, was alarmed by the presence of Alagie Morr.

Government investigations have linked Morr, a prominent figure in the tyrannical administration of Yahya Jammeh, the leader of Gambia, to abhorrent crimes such as sexual assaults, beatings, and the electrocution of prisoners.

At this time, there are widespread demands for Morr’s apprehension and possible extradition to Gambia, a country undergoing the process of transitioning to a democratic republic.

In an unrelated incident that occurred in March of last year, he was accused of assaulting his partner or ex-partner in the vicinity of his residence under the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm Act. Nevertheless, the Procurator Fiscal dismissed these charges, thereby preventing any additional legal actions.

According to reports, Police Scotland and the Crown Office are examining information regarding Morr’s alleged offences in Gambia in order to determine whether or not to pursue extradition.

The Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) of Gambia designated Morr as a senior official within the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) and the president’s National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Detainees have repeatedly accused him of heinous acts, including being stripped nude, handcuffed, beaten, and sexually assaulted, according to the commission’s reports.

An alleged victim, who sustained fractured teeth, testified that Morr subjected him to physical abuse, including stripping him of his trousers and forcibly handling his genitalia.

Although some of the tormented individuals claimed to have been electrocuted, the agents responsible for this punishment remain unknown.

Reed Brody, a Human Rights Watch spokesperson in Brussels and an international war crimes prosecutor, stated, “Edrissa Jobe, also known as Alagie Morr, was a close associate of Yahya Jammeh.”

“He has been credibly implicated in multiple cases of torture in Gambia where the Truth Commission has called for his prosecution.”

“One way or another, in Scotland or Gambia, Alagie Morr should be brought to justice.”

When accosted by the Sunday Mail at his Glasgow residence, the father of two maintained that he did not hold a decision-making position within Jammeh’s government.

He stated to a female correspondent in an uncooperative fashion, “I have been here for the past seven years. After four or five interviews with the Home Office, my asylum application has received no response. I am completely ignorant of extraditions. I adore this location.”

His distress was evident in his statement, “Discussions regarding human rights violations cause me pain.” I did not hold a position of authority in that government where decisions were made. The interrogation was not within my purview.”

Morr continued by elaborating on his position: “I was responsible for gathering files and taking statements in order to assist the prosecutors in determining whether or not they had a case.”

He justified his conduct by asserting, “My intention was to establish justice on a national and international scale.”

He pointed fingers in the direction of his accusers and stated, “Those who are levelling charges against me for human rights violations and torture were apprehended and brought before the court.”

Morr expressed scepticism regarding his accusers, stating, “Those responsible for these purported human rights allegations are well-informed.”

He elaborated on their motivations for making such allegations by saying, “They are well aware that your asylum claim is over the moment you are accused of alleged human rights violations and torture.”

Mr. Morr detailed his secluded existence, noting that his wife passed away four years ago and that his children now reside in other countries.

As further enigma was incorporated into his account, he lamentedly stated, “I am unaware of the whereabouts of my wife’s remains or the circumstances surrounding her demise. Because I was acting morally, I will not live with my family in a state of fear.

“My life is in danger so long as government officials and the cartel continue to conspire,” he explained to justify his continual apprehension.

He posed an intriguing inquiry: “Why are they exclusively interested in me? Seventy names were submitted; however, individuals who remain in my country have evaded apprehension.

His personal life appeared equally perplexing as his public persona, in which he resides in an apartment laden with exercise apparatus. His true identity eluded his neighbours, one of whom believed he was merely a night labourer.

Additionally, the 6-foot-4-inch-tall enforcer was observed pursuing our photographer through the street.

Kenny MacAskill, a former justice secretary and member of the Scottish Parliament for Alba, commented on the case, stating, “The case demonstrates how absurd the approach of the United Kingdom government towards asylum and immigration is; the Home Office is fixated on small boats and sending people to Rwanda, while we do nothing about this man.”

“From what I can tell, it is incomprehensible that he was arrested in Scotland and that the Crown Office has just released him without repercussions.” He ought to be before the International Criminal Court in The Hague, according to all accounts.

A Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service representative stated that (“at this time”), it would be “inappropriate” to disclose any comments.

Gambia was ruled by the former president Yahya Jammeh for a period of 22 turbulent years. He ruled with an iron paw over one of the poorest nations on the planet.

He resorted to violating the rights of individuals, stifling freedoms of expression and the press, and even issued death threats against lesbians and gays discovered in his nation.

Numerous human rights violations were also attributed to his regime, including the execution of 2,000 students following demonstrations, the murder of 50 migrants, the torture of 1,000 individuals accused of witchcraft, and the disappearance of dozens of adversaries and critics.

Jammeh, who was a zealot, lost power in 2016 following an election he manipulated; he did not take his defeat easily. Thankfully, a leader of the Democratic Party succeeded him as president of the United States.
