Yankuba Darboe, the commissioner general of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), has voiced hope that the organization would meet its D15 billion revenue goal in 2023.
Additionally, Mr. Darboe said that the GRA has been given a D19 billion revenue collection duty by the government of The Gambia via the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs in 2024.

The GRA CEO, Mr. Darboe, was fast to forecast the conclusion by the end of December, but he did not reveal how much income had been made from January to the present.

“Come rain, come shine, whatever the situation may be, GRA will surpass its revenue target for 2023 with the grace of the Almighty God,” he said, praising the dedication of the board of directors and personnel at GRA for setting sound policy guidelines.

Speaking on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, during a surprise visit by the Board to senior GRA personnel, Mr. Darboe reminded and counseled the senior staff about the difficulties that lay ahead and urged all GRA workers to step up and secure their belts.

He emphasized that when it came to collecting taxes, GRA would not fail the government.

He urged more dedication, teamwork, and collaboration, stating that the possibilities were endless. He gave his word that “the GRA Board and Management will do everything humanly possible to support GRA staff so they can effectively and efficiently deliver to expectation.”

The GRA Board’s chair, Madam Lucy Faye Jagne, for her part, praised the organization’s leadership and employees for consistently raising income collections over expectations.

According to her, GRA was given this goal as a sign of their confidence in and dedication to national development.

She gave the GRA personnel advice to constantly project a positive image of the organization and to work even more in 2024 since there would be hurdles. She also asked them to keep trying to help one another and educate themselves on the revenue laws and other agencies that control GRA.

Senior management and the GRA board plan to visit every GRA store around the country in the meantime. The goal is to visit and engage with the personnel at different stations in order to learn firsthand about the difficulties they have, the limitations they face, and some of the advancements made possible by their station managers.

The GRA Board Chair, Madam Lucy Faye, will lead the delegation, which will also include Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe, Deputy Commissioner General Essa Jallow, and Head of Domestic Taxes.
