The 50-kilometer Urban Road project and the 22-kilometer Bertil Harding Highway Road project are two current OIC road projects that have pleased President Adama Barrow, according to his remarks.
Following an inspection of the ongoing road work in the urban area, which coincided with the 2023 Meet the People Tour, the Gambian leader was addressing to media.

President Adama Barrow concluded his review of the current projects on Tuesday by telling reporters, “It has been a very difficult period for us as far as these projects are concerned, but today, definitely, I am impressed with the progress of the ongoing projects.”
He mentioned how nicely the 50 km, or Lots 1 and 2, are doing and said that part of the roads are expected to be completed by the end of December 2023. In summary, he said that their goal is to complete the project by the end of April in the following year, 2024.

He claims that the 22-kilometer Bertil Harding Highway construction is proceeding really well, leaving just one (overpass) bridge at the Fajara traffic light.

The development of the work will reach ‘Sting Corner’ by the end of December 2023, as both the consultants and contractors have stated to us. We are very pleased overall based on the feedback we have received from others who are also quite satisfied with the projects’ current stage.

The Gambian president reaffirmed that they will keep pressuring the contractors since the government views these projects as crucial given that, by the end of May 2024, the nation would host the OIC Summit.

“We’ll use every resource at our disposal to ensure that the 2024 OIC Summit is a great success. These initiatives will remain in the nation indefinitely, even if the OIC Summit is only going to last one or two days.

Following the OIC Summit, he said that the nation would accomplish historic projects via the OIC, saying that the country’s hosting of the OIC Summit allowed them to gather money for such road projects.

“Because these roads represent historic undertakings for the nation, they have great significance for me. These are the first roadways of their kind in our nation. These are sturdy roads despite their high cost. The roads are assured for the next fifty years.

Barrow expressed gratitude for the help received by the Ministry of Works, NRA, consultants, contractors, and his whole administration.
