Gunjur Mini Stadium Project Halted As GFF Financial Woes Continue

Gunjur Sport Committee on Wednesday stormed the Gambia Football Federation building demanding answers to why the Gunjur Mini Stadium project was stopped out of the blue.

GFF visited first the Gunjur football ground in May before work started in June. However, it was halted after few weeks.

The federation house received Thirty-six million six hundred and fifty-one thousand two hundred twenty-six dollars for the Gunjur, Busumbala mini stadium project. Three years later, none of the mini Stadia has been completed making stakeholders wonder where the financial discipline of the Kaba led administration was.

From the $707,500 which FIFA has been dispatched to the Federation, the GFF only went on to install lights in match venues during the month of June.

Kaba Bajo indirectly sacked 1st Vice president Bakary Jammeh from the chairmanship position of the GFF project/Contracts manager and pit himself there on May 30th.

The move has raised eyebrows with many citing that there is a power shuffle within the Exco members.

The delegation of the Gunjur Sports committee was left with sour mouth when president Lamin Kaba Bajo told them the contractor abandoned the project.

Gunjur sport committee made it crystal clear by asking if their guess were wrong when they decoded to know if Kaba used the money for political gain.

The response they had was a slow flow of work progress with the mini stadium project only for it to be halted. This has left many heartbroken and devastated.

The Gambia has some of the worst playing surfaces in the sub-region. Despite government not injecting money in infrastructures and sports, the support received from FIFA is most of the time not put into effective use by the federation.

None football activities should make the GFF continue to maintenance match venues but sources close to Kaba are saying that the federation account is currently red and they are using the Covid19 money to fix some holes
