The National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the Brikama Area Council (BAC) chairpersonship election, Seedy Sheriff Ceesay, has promised to enhance socio-economic development in the West Coast Region (WCR) to improve residents’ lives and livelihood.

Speaking to journalists shortly after presenting his nomination documents to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Brikama on Sunday 30 April 2023 for chairmanship, Mr Ceesay said: “My priorities as far as the West Coast Region is concerned are to make sure we have a clean West Coast, a West Coast in which we will grow the economy. And in West Coast, we will create jobs for young men and women.”

The journalist turned politician further said he has done a thorough assessment and has gained first-hand information of the needs and aspirations of the West Coast residents. He added that he possesses the quality to bring the needed developments to the region.

Mr Ceesay, who was accompanied by a huge crowd including NPP top brass, said he is among the people with the firm belief that they have a responsibility to look after the affairs of the citizenry to improve their living standards.

“I believe I have listened to the people of the West Coast. Some of you may witness that I have quite a lot of engagements with all the stakeholders of the West Coast. Based on those engagements I have the firm belief and commitment to serve the needs and aspirations of the people of West Coast Region,” he said.

Mr Ceesay said that with the support of President Adama Barrow, NPP supporters and NPP’s political pals (alliance), he is optimistic of victory on 20 May 2023 despite the painful defeat his party had in the councillorship election in the region.

The NPP candidate, who is backed by the Citizens Alliance (CA), the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction Party (APRC), and the National Reconciliation Party (NRP), is in a tight race with Yankuba Darboe of the UDP and Ahmed Gitteh, an independent candidate.

Meanwhile, IEC officials in the WCR have advised the NPP candidate to abide by the IEC rules and regulation as well as exercise maximum political ethics to ensure peace now, during and after the elections.
