Religious men have launched a petition in favor of a third candidacy of the President of the Republic, Macky Sall. This initiative bears the hallmark of Serigne Moustapha Mbacké Bara Dolly from Touba. The man says he succeeded in “enlisting 444 religious leaders belonging to all religious families in Senegal to demand a candidacy from Macky Sall in 2024”.

He also informs that Macky Sall will receive “the signatories of this petition in the coming days”.
Serigne Moustapha Mbacké Bara Dolly believes that “Macky Sall is the ideal man to lead the country in a context of upcoming gas and oil exploitation”. He further indicates that he is best able to “preserve the Senegalese values” bequeathed by generations of religious men. Finally, he affirms that this petition is only a first step, and that the signatories “will not hesitate to campaign for the President on the ground”.
This initiative is the second of its kind after that of the local executives (Mayors and Presidents of departmental councils) whose petition was signed by 512 local elected officials out of the 601 in Senegal.
