The leader of the main opposition United Democratic Party Ousainou Darboe has laid to rest the controversy surrounding his Abubacarr Ousainou Darboe name saying that Abubacarr is his legitimate birth name that he had used while acquiring high school and university education.

Mr. Darboe was speaking over the weekend at a UDP rally held in  Sukuta, Kombo North. The UDP leader has challenged his critics, detractors, and ops to visit Nigeria, where he studied law, The Gambia High School, St. Augustine’s High school, and the West Africa Education Council (WAEC) to verify his school records. He claimed that his Abubacarr name has featured in his school certificates and law degree.

Darboe’s statement followed Tourism Minister Hamat Bah’s recent statement questioning the rationale behind Darboe’s “change of name.” Bah couldn’t understand why Darboe was  coming up with the Abubcarr name, abandoning the name that he has been known for which is Ousainou Darboe.

“My late father had named me after Abubacarr. My mum had named me after a friend of her called Ousainou. I adopted the Ousainou name because of my mum. But the Abubacarr name is contained in all my documents, that is my legitimate name,” Darboe told his supporters.

Darboe says nothing is going to stop his candidacy in the coming elections.

“If they think that they can challenge my candidacy because of Abubacarr name, they must be out of their mine. No one can stop me from running in the coming elections. I guess they are legally limited, they do not know what they are talking about. They should check the Election Act before talking,” Darboe added.
