His Lordship The Hon. Chief Justice Mr. Justice Hassan Bubacar Jallow established the High Court’s Special Criminal Division on December 21, 2023, under Sections 131(3) and 143(1) of the Gambia Constitution.
The Order takes effect January 26, 2024. After implementing TRRC and Government White Paper suggestions, the Special Criminal Division of the High Court will try cases locally. Other High Court criminal matters and those assigned by the Chief Justice will also be handled by the Division. Division Judges are appointed by the Chief Justice.

The Division should improve criminal case administration, especially TRRC cases.

The Special Criminal Division will support Executive and Legislative efforts.
