GAMBIA: 32 INDIVIDUALS APPREHENDED FOR DRUGS POSSESSION

Twenty Gambians, ten Sierra Leoneans, one Guinean Conakry, and one Guinean Bissau citizen have been arrested by agents of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) and the Gambia Police Force for possessing illegal and restricted substances. The arrests took place at several sites between February 22, 2024, and March 2, 2024.

Cannabis sativa, hashish (cannabis resin), skunk cannabis, kush, cocaine, tramadol, and ecstasy were among the narcotics found in the seizure. A total of 16 bundles, 17 parcels, 365 wraps and 3 smoking joints of cannabis sativa, 73 pieces of hashish, 13 medical plastic bags with 227 wraps of kush, 10 wraps of cocaine, 7 ecstasy pills, and 30 tramadol tablets are among the substances that were recovered.

On February 28, 2024, at around 18:40 hours, the Brikama DLEAG station detained 33-year-old Guinean Foday Bangura, 18-year-old Buba Jammeh, and 32-year-old Bissau national Yunusa Touray at Kartong for collectively possessing 17 parcels and 108 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa. The wrappers were wrapped in white paper, placed inside a multicoloured bag, and hidden inside a bag pack. Kartong resident Alieu Manneh, 24, was also taken into custody by the Brikama DLEAG station on February 28, 2024, at approximately 18:40. The arrest involved the discovery of four wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, which were wrapped in white paper and placed inside a bag that was coloured blue and black.

Sanyang village resident Modou Lamin Sanyang, 20, was taken into custody by the Brikama DLEAG station on February 28, 2024, at approximately 19:15 hours. The arrest involved the discovery of six wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and twenty-seven wraps of suspected kush, which were wrapped in white paper and placed within a clear nylon bag.

Adama Gomez, a 28-year-old inhabitant of Brikama Suba Ward, was taken into custody by the Brikama DLEAG station on March 1, 2024, at approximately 12:25 p.m., after 46 wraps of suspected kush were found hidden under the counter at Francis’s Bar and wrapped in white papers.

Musa Beyai, 41, a resident of Abuko, was taken into custody by the Serrekunda DLEAG station on February 29, 2024, at approximately 18:20. The arrest involved the discovery of 70 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, which were hidden in white papers and placed inside a blue nylon bag that was then placed inside a red bag pack.

Charles Kanga, a twenty-three-year-old resident of Churchill’s Town, was taken into custody by members of the Gambia Police Force Bakoteh Station on February 28, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., when they found three wraps of suspected kush hidden inside a clear nylon bag.

Foday Bangura, a 31-year-old resident of Kanifing South, was taken into custody by Gambia Police Force Bakoteh Station staff on February 29, 2024, at approximately 17:00 hours. The suspects included 6 wraps of suspected kush and 2 sachets of tramadol, both of which were still in their original sachets, with the kush hidden inside a clear nylon bag.

On February 27, 2024, at around 19:30 hours, members of the Gambia Police Force Bakoteh Station arrested Gibril Touray, 42, a Sierra Leonean, Amadou Keita, 34, and Alagie Jeng, 41. They found four wraps and some suspected kush hidden in a clear nylon bag and covered in a brown blanket.

As more investigations are conducted, all of the suspects are presently being held in custody.
