On April 15, 2024, Kumba Sinyan, a woman on trial for the suspected murder of her boyfriend, Lamarana Jallow, will begin her defence.

In order to establish her guilt, the prosecution has already called ten (10) witnesses and presented several exhibits. Kumba Sinyan is charged with just one murder. According to the prosecution, she killed Lamarana Jallow, her boyfriend, by severing his stomach with a razor blade. The claimed incident happened in September 2022 in Bakau’s Friendship Hostel.

It’s her chance to launch her defence in an attempt to defend her actions or establish her innocence. Opening defence entails Kumba Sinyan testifying to provide her version of events and, if she so chooses, calling further witnesses. The charge against her was refuted by her. A physician from Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), who performed a post-mortem on Lamarana Jallow, was the most recent witness to testify in this case.
The pathologist claimed that in order to ascertain the cause of death, he carried out both internal and external investigations and then wrote a report outlining his conclusions.

The medical report was submitted and approved for use as proof. The physician, who is also a lecturer, said that the findings demonstrated internal penetration and that a significant amount of blood was discovered surrounding Lamarana’s heart. He added that he found an 18 by 20 centimetre piece of fabric in Lamarana’s mouth. He said that because of a gash in the stomach, Late Lamarana’s small intestine was showing.

The witness stated during cross-examination by defence attorney Sagarr Twum that the post-mortem was carried out after two (2) days and a half. When questioned about the lengthy wait for the result to be signed, the physician said that it was because of the number of exams he conducts that he only signs reports upon request from the authorities. He also mentioned that findings from foreign testing can take up to three months.

The prosecuting attorney notified the court that their case was concluded following the cross-examination. Dates for the defence to present its case were set aside by the court. The case is scheduled to arrive on April 15 at noon, April 24 at 11 am, April 25 at 11 am, and April 26 at 10 am.

The court will set a date for judgement if the defence concludes its case and directs the prosecution and defence attorneys to submit written arguments.
