GAMBIA: EDWARD FRANCIS SMALL TEACHING HOSPITAL SENIOR OFFICIALS ON LEAVE DUE TO CORRUPTION AUDIT

An important development is the placement of at least four top officials on administrative leave at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital. The decision is linked to an ongoing audit effort at the hospital, as reported by the Standard daily and corroborated by reputable sources.

Deputy Chief Medical Director Abubacarr Jagne, Procurement Officer Nyima Jatta, Operations Director Adama Mbye, and Finance Director Lamin Ceesay are among the personnel who have been granted vacation. The accusations of “massive corruption” made by Dr. Adama Sallah, the hospital’s board chairman, have spurred the audit. It has been stated that Dr. Sallah himself has been fired in light of these serious charges.

There have been growing allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption at the hospital, which has led to the decision to put these individuals on administrative leave. The seriousness of the matter is highlighted by Dr. Sallah’s departure as board chairman, as the hospital’s administration is shrouded in suspicion due to the corruption charges.

As a result of the administrative changes, the hospital’s financial operations are now being overseen by the deputy finance director. Furthermore, Dr. Sanyang has taken over as chair of the board, succeeding Dr. Sallah.

The National Audit Office reportedly requested the measures as part of their usual process. Putting the officials on administrative leave does not, at this point, indicate guilt in any wrongdoing. Openness and responsibility in the hospital’s operations are the goals of the audit.

Healthcare providers and members of the public alike will be keeping a careful eye on the audit’s progress in the hopes that the results will establish Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital’s credibility and honesty.
