Michael Sang Correa’s arraignment in Denver, Colorado courts for unspecified human rights abuses and killings under Yahya Jammeh’s authoritarian regime in Gambia demonstrates America’s dedication to bringing dangerous individuals to justice.
This contrasts with Gambia’s government, which celebrates murderers with red carpets and badges of honour, underscoring the disparity in respect for human rights and dignity between the two societies.
Since the return of Seedy Njie, current Deputy Speaker, has been followed by the return of other notorious individuals associated with former dictator Yahya Jammeh’s regime. These individuals, known as ‘junglers,’ continue to roam the streets and face their victims, causing further trauma without any government intervention to provide protection and support to those affected.
The return of Major General Saul Badjie and the VIP medical treatment of Major General Bora Colley are among the recent events that have transpired. In contrast, numerous others continue to experience critical conditions and death without any aid from the Barrow administration, which seems to be unresponsive to their plight.
The Gambia requires a change in leadership. President Adama Barrow’s removal from office is necessary to achieve success and address the corruption and violations that have plagued the country during his tenure.
