Criminal charges have been filed in the Kerr Serign assault incident in which Binta Tamba, the wife of the popular Gambian musician ST, was accused of orchestrating the assault of one Tayib Joof. Binta Tamba and her co accused persons have been charged with trespass and assault causing bodily harm.
“What we gathered so far in the case is that Binta Tamba encountered an unknown boy at Village along the Senegambia road. The boy according to her, later followed up and was abusing her. As a result, she called for assistance and some people came to her aid. They chased the boy till he entered into a compound at Kerr Serign. He was followed into the compound, confronted and assaulted,” Police spokesman Superintendent Lamin Njie told Freedom Newspaper on Thursday.
According to Superintendent Njie, it was the landlord, who filed a criminal complaint against the accused persons.
The landlord who felt disturbed by the intrusion reported the matter to the police. They were all brought to the station and charged with Trespass and Assault contrary to the laws,” Njie stated.
The police spokesman said Binta Tamba was charged together with four others, including one Fabakary Fabureh for assaulting Tayib Joof.
The charges followed an altercation Binta Tamba had with Tayib Joof at a restaurant at the Senegambia strip joint not far from the former Tropicana night club.
When asked to disclose the names of the other accused persons, Superintendent Njie said the police report he received didn’t provide such information.
“Not contained in the report received… unless I follow up,” Njie stated.
Musician ST visited the Senegambia police station a day after the incident, where he bailed his arrested wife.
