The treason trial of the alleged coup plotters has been adjourned due to the absence of the state’s lead counsel, A.M. Yusuf.

The case was supposed to resume for continuation today after it was adjourned last week pending a ruling on the defense team’s objection to the admissibility of a mobile phone sought to be tendered by the state.

The alleged coup plotters and their legal team were present in court for the hearing. But the state filed an application seeking an adjournment due to the absence of its lead counsel in the case, A.M. Yusuf.

“The state wishes to seek an adjournment because AM Yusuf, is bereaved and left the jurisdiction for Nigeria and his co-counsel L. Jarju is also out of the jurisdiction for medical treatment. Consequently, we crave the court’s indulgence to grant us an adjournment to Monday the 17th of April 2023, 11 am to 3 pm,” the State said in a statement.

The court granted the application and adjourned the case to the 17th of April 2023 for continuation.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jally M.I. Senghore would now wait until the next adjourned date to continue giving his testimony in the alleged coup plotters’ trial before Justice Basiru B.V.P Mahoney of the High Court of the Gambia.

The Four (4) Soldiers and one (1) Police Officer are accused of attempting to overthrow the government of Adama Barrow and are charged with 5 counts including treason.

The defendants in the case are; Lance Corporal Sanna Fadera (1st accused) Private Officer, Gibril Darboe (2nd accused) Corporal Ebrima Sannoh (3rd accused), and Corporal Omar Njie (4th accused), Fabakary Jawara (5th accused) is the lone Police Officer charged alongside the Soldiers.
