Alasana Janneh, a Gambia College administrative assistant, has been suspended pending an inquiry into charges of sexual and physical abuse on a female student. Malagen, an independent investigative Gambian news site, broke the story first.
Janneh, 32, is suspected of attacking the student after she confronted him about her grades, according to Malagen.
“The Gambia College administration wishes to inform the general public that the institution is aware of an alleged sexual and physical assault case against a female student by one of the administrative assistants.” Gambia College has expressed grave concern over the purported event at its Brikama campus. “The administration and governing council are not taking this matter lightly and are taking the necessary administrative steps to address the case,” the college administration stated in a news release.
The institution said it will decide how to deal with justice based on the results of the police inquiry.
“At the administrative level, the suspect is currently suspended pending the outcome of the police investigations, in accordance with the institution’s code of conduct.” An internal panel has also been formed to address administrative concerns related to the event. “The Gambia College assures the public of its continued commitment to providing a safe learning environment for its students,” they concluded.
