GAMBIA: AUTHORITHIES AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY HAS INVITED PROTESTERS FOR DIALOGUE

Days following a demonstration against the contentious Judicial Officers Remuneration Bill and the National Assembly Members Salaries and Pensions Bill, the National Assembly authorities have extended an invitation to protesters to engage in dialogue.

Last Monday, the protesters occupied the National Assembly building, urging lawmakers to rescind the two bills they contend are economically and socially unjust to the overwhelming majority of civil servants. They submitted a petition to the speaker of the Assembly, urging legislators to take their eight demands into account or face a national strike.

The authorities have resolved to invite seven representatives of the group to a meeting for a discussion, as stated in a letter addressed to the Concerned Citizens by the Clerk of the National Assembly in response to the petition, which was seen by The Standard.

The Assembly premises will host the meeting this afternoon.
