GAMBIA: “DAFADOY NAWEC BRING BACK CHEAPER TARIFFS” TO PROTEST AGAINST NAWAC TODAY AT 1:00 PM

A group of young Gambians, under the banner of “Bring Back Cheaper Tariffs for Electricity and Water,” has confirmed that they have been granted a permit to hold a protest today at 1 pm against the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC). The protest is in response to NAWEC’s recent decision to increase its tariffs.

“After a series of meetings with Police from Wednesday to Friday we’re pleased to announce that the #DafaDoy #NAWEC #BringBackCheaperTariffs Peaceful Protest has been granted a permit by the Police to commence our demonstration by 1 pm on Saturday 13th May 2023,” Ousainu Gambia, one of their members confirmed to Kerr Fatou.

The team is inviting the public to assemble peacefully at Westfield on the NAWEC side of the road at Cooperative Junction at 1 pm.

“It’s finally time for everybody to demonstrate our collective dissatisfaction PEACEFULLY against the extortionate new NAWEC Tariffs and demand for its reversal within the shortest possible time. If NAWEC goes back to the previous tariff The Gambia will remain as 6th most expensive in West Africa which is still very high. Come one, come all in peace and make your voices heard to compel the authorities to take the necessary steps to reduce the burden on all Gambians and people living in this country,” he concluded.
