According to reliable sources, Saikou Omar Jeng, the former head of Operations for the now-defunct National Intelligence Agency (NIA), was stabbed to death in the State Central Prison (Mile Two) by another prisoner.
Jeng, who is now incarcerated at Mile 2 Prison, was given a death sentence along with four other high-ranking NIA officers for his role in Solo Sandeng’s (UDP) opposition party’s killing.
It has been stated that Amadou Manneh, another prisoner, stabbed Jeng.
Luke Jatta, the deputy spokesman for The Gambia Prison Service (GPS), has verified the occurrence, stating: “Mr. Jeng was taking an ablution when the incident happened on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at around 17:15 p.m. Amadou Manneh, a condemned prisoner, stabbed him about the throat with a screwdriver.”
“After the culprit was captured, Jeng was taken right away for medical attention to the Ndemban Clinic, he added.
He said, “The police have charged the suspected prisoner with assault causing bodily harm after conducting an investigation into the incident.”
PRO Jatta further said that Amadou Manneh was finally charged before a Banjul magistrate court.
