APA-Banjul (The Gambia) Sources in Banjul say there is more to the purported resignation of the Minister of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs than meets the eye.

President Adama Barrow has accepted the June 26th resignation of Sherrif Abba Sanyang who had alluded to some personal turn of events as reasons for his abrupt departure.

”Mr. Sanyang’s resignation effective 1st July 2023 is for personal reasons contravening his position as a cabinet minister” says a statement from President Barrow’s office.

Sources tell APA that ”he may have been pushed instead of being let to jump on his own free will” given the suggestion by the statement that his personal position had ”contravened” his role as cabinet minister.

The sources claim Sanyang was under pressure by the government to either step aside or face the axe over land and monetary improprieties some of which predate his stint as minister.

He was Governor of the Central River Region before President Barrow appointed him into his cabinet as Lands Minister in May 2022.
