GAMBIA: MAMA KANDEH CAUTIONS THAT THE APPROVAL OF THE JUDICIAL OFFICERS BILL COULD POTENTIALLY END BARROW’S RULE

President Adama Barrow has been warned by Hon. Mama Kandeh, Secretary General and Party Leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), that the Judicial and Officers Bill, which is scheduled to be presented in the National Assembly, could lead to the collapse of his government.

The GDC head voiced his displeasure with the government’s proposal in an audio shared on social media:

The proposed Judicial and Officers Bill, which is going to be discussed in the National Assembly, really disturbs me. Does the administration consider the Gambians to be mindless cattle? Do they think Gambian people don’t deserve better? Please excuse my bluntness, but right now I’m furious. A small minority rests comfortably, pursuing solely personal gain and doing nothing except draining the nation of its resources. For what length of time is this possible? “Enough is enough,” proclaimed Kandeh.

Additionally, he charged that the administration of President Barrow had been steadily raising their own incomes at the expense of the suffering of regular Gambians, including as market vendors, struggling farmers, and young people dealing with issues like drug addiction and illegal immigration.

You are not thinking about the suffering of the underprivileged Gambians, farmers, struggling market vendors, or the young people who are dying every day from drug overdoses or illegal immigration. Do you not consider these matters? What about the pay for our physicians, nurses, drivers, couriers, and security guards? You seem to only be concerned with oneself. You weren’t chosen for this position. I genuinely hope that the members of the National Assembly would have the common sense to reject this bill. It’s enough. Ordinary Gambians are burdened while you continue to raise taxes and your own incomes. What form of administration is this? It is not appropriate. You are a minority among Gambian nationals, and you are not the sole citizens of this nation,” he remarked.

The leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress expressed even more disappointment and cautioned President Adama Barrow that it might be the reason for the collapse of his administration;

I am really disappointed with your current state of thinking as a citizen. You’ve had every chance to obtain respectable employment, high pay, and a cosy lifestyle. How about people who haven’t been given these opportunities? Are they not citizens or people? It appears that you think everyone is not fully human. This cannot continue, Mr. President. To be clear, I don’t approve of this. Your government may come to an end if you keep going in this direction. We are worn out and in pain. In the Gambia, the salaries you pay yourself are unheard of. Maybe because you don’t care, you are unaware of the depth of the hardship endured by Gambians. How many Gambians even go without bread or meals at home, let alone your big salaries? Are you aware of this? Kandeh queried.
