In a statement made on Wednesday, the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Hon. Hamat NK. Bah, expressed his opinion that National Assembly Members should be exempt from paying for their automobiles. During the discourse on the contentious subject of the automobiles recently acquired by legislators, he expressed this perspective.
I have a divergent perspective from the majority of individuals and other individuals. The author posits that Section 112 of the Constitution explicitly outlines the obligations of Members of Parliament towards the Gambian Nation. Consequently, the author contends that it is unjust for these parliamentarians to have D22,000,00 taken from their monthly remuneration to cover the expenses associated with acquiring these automobiles. This perspective is presented, and it is argued that it is erroneous. Hon Bah expressed his perspective that the conversion of these cars into fuel should be undertaken without any financial burden on the individuals.

According to the Tourism Minister, Members of Parliament are duly elected representatives who diligently fulfill their professional responsibilities. The individual strongly encouraged the Speaker of the National Assembly to use all available means to avoid incurring expenses related to their automobiles.

The elected members are diligently doing their duties. The statement suggests that the Speaker, under their leadership, should do maximum effort to ensure that individuals are not need to pay any amount for the acquisition of these cars, as it is deemed incorrect.

The Honourable Bah expressed appreciation towards the leadership of the National Assembly and the government for their provision of necessary resources to enable parliamentarians to carry out their duties with efficiency.

I extend my congratulations to the esteemed house leaders, as well as to the Members of Parliament and the administration, for providing the National Assembly Members (NAMs) with an appropriate platform to effectively carry out their duties. According to the speaker, the allocation of the vehicle to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) members is very appropriate and well-timed, enabling them to effectively fulfill their duties.
