GAMBIA: MOROCCO & GAMBIA DISCUSS MILITARY COOPERATION & EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCES

Morocco and the Gambia have discussed ways of strengthening cooperation in military training and the exchange of experiences in matters of defense.

During a meeting held Monday in Rabat, Inspector General of Royal Armed Forces, Commander of the South Zone Lt. General Mohamed Berrid and visiting Maj. General Mamat OA CHAM, Chief of Defense Staff of the Gambia, also discussed the holding and participation in military exercises.

The two sides lauded the relations of trust and mutual respect existing between the two African countries.

Cooperation ties between Rabat and Banjul gained momentum since the royal visit paid to the Gambia in 2006. This West African country opened a Consulate General in Moroccan Saharan city of Dakhla in 2020, a move confirming its recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

The Moroccan-Gambian military talks come few days after the meeting of the two countries’ cooperation commission convened in Dakhla under the co-chairmanship of Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita and Gambian peer Mamadou Tangara.

The meeting was crowned with the signing of several agreements destined to enhance partnership in customs, in fish farming & processing, international road transport of passengers & goods, trade, tourism, security, vocational training, higher education, culture…
