Mr President, Your recent statement is disturbing and it is an incitement to violence. This is especially troubling coming from someone who is supposed to rule with law and order. I Quote
“ I am telling the National People’s Party (NNP), you should not be afraid, you are the government, and you are Governing. President Barrow cannot handle all these things for you. If anyone insults or provokes you, or breaks the law, stand firm, be strong, and fight back.. I support you, and no one can stop you from fulfilling your duties.” President Adama Barrow
As the leader of our nation,as a sitting President, it is your duty to uphold peace and justice, and to ensure that your actions and words promote stability and respect for all individuals, including the oppositions. Your recent call for your party to “fight back, be brave and you will support them” is deeply concerning. Such rhetoric is highly inappropriate coming from a Head of State and it inciting violence withining the division.
I want to remind you, The Governor of the Central Bank, Buah Saidy’s statement that the overall budget deficit is D4.0 billion (2.3 percent of GDP) in the first quarter of 2024. This is where you should asked NPP and your whole government to fight to reduce the deficit and you will give your support. Under your leadership the country is in disarray and this should be your forcus and fight instead of this approach you are taking.
Mr President, your this approach is particularly troubling because it is shift towards authoritarianism, undermining the democratic principles we have fought to uphold. It is imperative that you promote dialogue, peace, and justice, ensuring that our country remains a democracy where the rule of law prevails.
Your recent utterwances is slowly sliding us into dictatorship, and it is crucial to remember that your role is to Govern with law and order, fostering unity and respect for all citizens.
“I call on TThe Gambia National Assemblyand NNational Human Rights Commission, The Gambiato urge the President to be measured in his utterances. His threats of violence cannot be ignored, as they can quickly escalate if proactive measures aren’t taken.
