On Friday, February 23, 2024, His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, presided over the Niro Ground Handling Company Ltd.’s inauguration event at Banjul International Airport in Yundum.

A private ground handling and catering company, Niro Handling provides flight support services via licenced ground handlers as well as full airport ground handling services.
Niro is a company that operates at Banjul International Airport that offers flight food, passenger handling, and ramp services. The Gambia Companies Act of 2013 allows it to be incorporated as an Aviation Ground Handling Services Provider.

International delegates, cabinet ministers, and aviation sector players were present at the occasion.
President Adama Borrow spoke to the group and emphasised the importance of Niro’s presence at Banjul International Airport, stressing that it signifies more than simply business. He exhorted the young people to follow in Mr. Sulayman Cham’s footsteps and make investments in projects that align with government policy.

“NIRO Company Limited is now a shining example of what can be accomplished through innovation and determination within the aviation industry here.” We are happy to acknowledge that this initiative has produced job opportunities and will further the country’s economic development,” he stated.
He underlined that NIRO’s rise represents a dedication to development and collaboration, emphasising the youth’s capacity to spark constructive changes and raise the country’s profile abroad.

“Let us acknowledge the importance of NIRO Company Limited in shaping the future of our youth and the country as we inaugurate this magnificent edifice. May it serve to inspire other young entrepreneurs to dream big, work hard, and contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of the country,” Barrow said.

Sulayman Cham, the CEO of Niro Company Limited, commended His Excellency President Adama Barrow for his unwavering support, which has been evident in the productive cooperation between the public and private domains.
Additionally, he exhorted youthful, aspirational businesspeople to invest in The Gambia’s development and take advantage of its economic prospects.

“President Adama Barrow, this investment has become a reality because of your leadership and support, which are demonstrated by the public-private sector collaboration.

He declared, “Your government’s belief in Gambian youths and my vision is a shining example of true leadership, democracy, and hope for the economic development of our beloved country, The Gambia.”

According to him, the facility is proof of the potential that results from working together between the public and private sectors under your model leadership.

Mr. Abdullah Konateh gave an outline of the elements of the complex while speaking on behalf of the building crew. He emphasised the value of Gambian unity and the strength that arises when people from the Gambia come together, emphasising the numerous chances and possibilities that may be realised through such cooperation.

The administrative department’s 1000 square metre RCC-framed building and the technical department’s 800 square metre Portal Frame structure make up this complex. A total of 5200 square metres of reinforced and mass concrete pavement will be used for Integrated Building Services (IBS), Water Filtration unit, two security structures outfitted with cutting-edge security equipment installations, Mobile Fuel Station, Greenery space interspersed with a range of ornamental trees, and parking and storage for Ground Support Equipment and Unit Load Devices at the air side.

The partnership between Niro and Asky Airline was emphasised by Esayas Woldermariam Hailu, CEO of Asky Airline.

“NIRO, an aircraft company specialising in ground handling and catering, offers a certain style of service that is scarce on the continent. Gambia is therefore fortunate to have a true indigenous aviation company that is owned, operated, and managed by an African.

“Mr. Sulayman Cham is a young businessman who aims to create jobs and advance aviation development. He is providing Asky with professional catering and handling services, and Asky trusted him to create many aviation services, so the government and society at large should support and encourage this kind of initiative, he stated.
