GAMBIA: POLICE ARREST A CHILD OFFENDER & 9 OTHERS OVER SUSPECTED DRUGS

The Gambia’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) arrested 10 persons, including a child, over the weekend after they were reportedly captured with suspected banned narcotics.

Dawda Sanyang, a senior narcotics law enforcement officer at DLEAG’s narcotics Demand Reduction Unit, corroborated the facts. Narcotics cops apprehended them in various locations.

SannaKebbeh, a 22-year-old Brikama resident, was detained by Brikama DLEAG Station on September 12, 2023, reportedly with fifty-three (53) wraps of suspected cannabis ruderalis (Skunk) hidden in white paper and put within a clear medical bag.

On the same day, 24-year-old Lamin Gassama, also of Brikama, was detained by the same DLEAG station reportedly with fifty-three (53) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa hidden in white paper and put inside a black bag with green and red color.

Narcotics officers reported that 29-year-old Bakary Jaiteh, a resident of Sika Village in the North Bank Region, was arrested on September 15th by the Barra DLEAG Station allegedly with two medium bundles, one parcel, and one wrap of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white and brown cement paper.

Salifu Bah, 19, of Sika Village, was also apprehended by the Barra DLEAG Station on September 13th, reportedly with one plantain of suspected cannabis sativa growing in a basin in his home. MalickJammeh, an 18-year-old London Corner resident, was detained by the Tallinding DLEAG Station on September 14th, reportedly with twenty-eight (28) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa hidden in white paper and tucked within a brown tiny pocketbook.

“27-year-old Kebba Fatty, a resident of Kerr Sering, was also arrested by the Kotu DLEAG Station on the 10th of September allegedly with fifteen (15) wraps of suspected cannabis ruderalis (skunk) and one wrap of suspected cannabis resin (hashish), which was concealed in a transparent nylon bag and inside a multicolor bubble gum packet,” the narcotics officers explain.

They also stated that Seedy Saidy, a 19-year-old Sukuta resident, was arrested on September 8th by Brikama DLEAG Station allegedly with eleven (11) stones of suspected cannabis resin (hashish), six (6) pills of ecstasy, and nineteen (19) wraps of suspected kush, all of which were concealed in a white nylon bag and placed inside a transparent nylon bag.

“On the 8th of September, 9-year-old Mahtarr Barry, a resident of Younna Village, was arrested by Brikama DLEAG Station at Sukuta allegedly with twenty-three (23) ecstasy pills concealed in a plastic bag and placed on top of his veranda.” Brikama DLEAG Station detained 37-year-old Modou Bah, a resident of Brikama, on the 11th of September 2023, reportedly with thirteen (13) packets of suspected cannabis sativa disguised in a white paper, multi-colored bag and put inside a camouflage bag,” they claimed.

Meanwhile, narcotic officers said that on September 12th, an accused child offender (ACO) was apprehended by Basse DLEAG Station at Kabba Kama with seven (7) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa disguised in white paper and put within a black cross bag.

Dawda Sanyang said that all suspects are in custody and that his office is conducting its investigations.
