President Adama Barrow reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implement the report of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) at the stakeholder meeting and donor roundtable on implementing the TRRC recommendations.

“My government is committed to ensuring a comprehensive and effective implementation process and recognizes the importance of working collaboratively with all stakeholders, both national and international. The task before us is enormous, and we can get it done, but we must take every opportunity to address the many facets of the transitional justice process. Indeed, bringing about change requires a holistic and integrated approach: we must address the root causes of the human rights abuses taking place in this country and ensure that such crimes never happen again. “We have to focus on that,” the president said. He said the process includes strengthening the country’s democratic institutions, promoting transparency and accountability, and creating an environment in which human rights are respected and protected.

President Barrow said the government recognizes the importance of holding those responsible for human rights abuses accountable and providing relief and support to victims.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure justice is done and the rights and dignity of victims are protected,” Barrow said.

The President of the Gambia spoke at a stakeholder meeting and a donor roundtable on Friday about implementing the recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC).
