GAMBIA: REVELATION FROM NIRO COMPANY INSIDER

We are back again with the NIRO Chronicle. We had to take a break from the posting due to Ramadan.

In the meantime, while we rested to focus on God, these corrupt officials were still busy devising ways to direct public funds and businesses to their baby NIRO and many other new “projects” that, in their justifications, are too efficient because all of Barrow’s incapable ministers are operating with the notion that the public sector is incapable and inefficient. How can a state minister responsible for an industry sabotage state institutions in that sector in their quest to bring private people that they can collaborate with to kill the public institution under their purview so that he can get brown envelopes?

Well, the “Kabudu” of NIRO consists of the current Gambian Vice President, Chief of Staff, Minister of Trade, Minister of Civil Services, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Works, the Station Manager for Brussels Airlines here in Banjul, and all the rest are at it again. And it will not be a surprise if they give the handling of the OIC Summit to NIRO. However, despite the “supposed” inefficiency that most of them are propagating about GIA, the public institution legally mandated to provide ground handling at the airport, their favoured baby NIRO has been manifesting outright incompetence and inefficiency, and no one has said and done anything to correct it.

The most recent inefficiency of their baby NIRO is their inability to aid the ASKY flight today, 15th April, to start and depart from Banjul due to the lack of ground support equipment called Air Starter. NIRO, which does not have the required Ground Support Equipment to handle even two flights simultaneously, had to bank on their rival GIA to rescue them as they watched the ASKY flight with connecting passengers delayed.

According to a frustrated NIRO staff, the request to rescue them originated from the Office of the President, specifically the Chief of Staff, Mod K Ceesay. They had to call him to talk to GIA to assist. “We cannot do this; our CEO knows it, and these politicians know it. But they are just forcing us because they have made so much investment into this ground handling thing. Our line of business and what we are competent for is Flight Catering. But these politicians wouldn’t understand. I hope my boss wakes up and faces reality”.

This shameless man called Chief of Staff, Mod K. Ceesay, dared to call GIA, suggesting that they help NIRO when he had been spreading the news that GIA is incompetent and has no Ground Support equipment to handle flights at Banjul International Airport. The question is, if MOD Ceesay had no hand/share in NIRO, why would he call GIA to rescue them? Why can’t NIRO themselves make that request? This is how they are killing our public institutions for their selfish gains.

No wonder the Vice President is pushing via GCAA for GIA to collaborate with NIRO for the upcoming OIC Summit because NIRO does not have the experience, competence or equipment to render the service to our incoming guests; these people have no shame.

All these top officials have favoured NIRO, and GCAA is no exception. NIRO began by using right-hand-handed buses to transport passengers from the aircraft to the terminal building. This already contravenes our traffic laws and is a security concern for airport operations, too.

Due to inefficiency, they have been spilling toilet waste from the aircraft all over the apron, where flights park. This is another safety concern as it poses a health hazard to working staff when inhaled and contributes to Foreign Debris for the landing aircraft. Neither NIRO nor GCAA have taken steps to clean these phases at the apron, but were left to dry. These and many other irregularities that GCAA have been silent on but would have made a big fuss about if it were GIA.
