GAMBIA: SAUDI ARABIA URGES OIC RESTRUCTURING AND REFORM

15th OIC summit kicks off in Gambia: War on Gaza top agendaThe OIC has to be restructured and reformed, according to a call made on Saturday by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its envoy, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is in Banjul for the 15th OIC summit.

In order for the organisation to become the second largest international organisation globally, the Kingdom stated that they fully support the political will and drive to reform it. The prince went on to say that the OIC must collaborate closely with the world community and build up its infrastructure.

“The issues for the cause of Palestine remain a priority for the Islamic Ummah since inception, it reflects the voice of the Islamic Ummah in support of the brotherly people of Palestine and to ensure that they exceed to their rightful justice,” he said, continuing his discussion on the Palestinian crises.

“Israeli aggression against hospitals, schools, and infrastructure has continued to this day, even intensifying, with thousands upon thousands of victims.” He stated, “Since the beginning of the aggression, the kingdom has worked with the brotherly and sisterly nations to protect the Palestinian people.

In his speech, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud also discussed the kingdom’s efforts to unite the people he referred to as the Nationals of the Ummah in order to strengthen the OIC’s efforts to settle and resolve worldwide, local, and regional peace initiatives.

He restated their demands, which include elevating the suffering of the Palestinian people and securing safe passageways out of the Gaza Strip. According to him, they are also keeping up their efforts to emphasise the significance of coordinating peace efforts in Yemen in order to reach a comprehensive settlement at all levels—local, regional, and worldwide. According to him, they also demand that Syria be made more stable, that terrorist organisations be opposed, that narcotics not be allowed to cross through its borders, and that the repatriation of its refugees be made easier.

The Minister went on to state that they emphasise the significance of Sudan’s sovereignty as well as the Libyan people’s right to choose a national unity government to symbolise Libya’s authenticity and complete unity.

According to him, the kingdom also underlines the necessity of restoring Somalia’s territorial integrity and unity and urged the international community to contribute to the global establishment of peace and security.
