GAMBIA: SIGNIFICANT CABINET REORGANISATION REMOVES SIAKA SONKO, QUEEN JAMMEH AND CLAIDIANA COLE FROM THEIR POSTS

Both Claidiana Cole, the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, and Lamin Queen Jammeh, the Minister of Information, lost their jobs on Friday in a major shake-up of the Cabinet.

The State House reports that the Minister of Information, Honourable Lamin S.I. Jammeh, has lost his position in the Cabinet. He is succeeded by Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, a political science lecturer at The University of The Gambia and the party’s founder, the Citizenship Alliance.

The Cabinet Appointment of Honourable Lamin S.I. Jammeh, Minister of Information, is rescinded. Ismaila Ceesay, MD, is named the next Information Minister. Dr. Ceesay, a political science lecturer at the University of The Gambia, was a graduate of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. The political group Citizen’s Alliance was founded and is led by him.

The position of Interior Minister has been filled by Mr. Abdoulie Sanyang, Inspector General of Police, following the redeployment of Honourable Seyaka Sonko to The Gambia Foreign Service.
Mr. Sanyang, a University of The Gambia and Gambia Law School alum, has a plethora of professional police officer expertise to his new position.

“Mr. Sanyang has been named Interior Minister.” The state house declared, “Mr. Sanyang is a career police officer who began his career as a French teacher. He is a graduate of The University of The Gambia and The Gambia Law School, where he trained as a Barrister at Law.

Furthermore, Honourable Hamat N.K. Bah, Minister of Tourism and Culture, is transferred to the Ministry of Lands & Regional Government, and Honourable Ousman Sowe, Minister of Lands & Regional Government, takes on the role of Director General, State Intelligence Services.

Hon. Abdoulie Jobe, the Minister of Petroleum and Energy, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Tourism & Culture, and Mr. Nani Juwara has assumed the job of Minister of Petroleum and Energy. As the new Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Ms. Haddy Jatou Sey replaces Hon. Claudiana A. Cole, who has been transferred to the Gambia Foreign Service.

Distinguished. Minister of Petroleum and Energy Abdoulie Jobe has been transferred to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Mr. Nani Juwara is the new Minister of Petroleum and Energy. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of The Gambia, Mr. Nani Juwara, a career employee of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), ascended to the position of Managing Director. He has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from The University of Southern Denmark.

“The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education is Ms. Haddy Jatou Sey. Ms. Sey, a development specialist, graduated from American University in Washington, DC with a degree in sociology and from The University of Sussex in the UK with a master’s degree in gender and development. In addition to her extensive experience working on development projects in Africa, Ms. Sey worked for the World Bank from 2005 to 2020 as a Senior Social Development Specialist, the state house declared.

President Adama Barrow has announced a number of other appointments in addition to these changes:

– The Inspector General of the Gambia Police Force is Mr. Seedy Muctar Touray, who is now the Director General of the Gambia Immigration Department.

– Mr. Bai Ebrima Mboob, Immigration Commissioner, takes over as Director General of the Gambia Immigration Department.

– Mr. Ousman Sowe has been appointed as the new Director General of the State Intelligence Services, replacing Mr. Lamin Jadama, who has been redeployed to the Foreign Service.

– Mr. Galo Saidy is named National Water & Electricity Company’s Managing Director.

– Mr. Momodou Sabally assumes the role of Special Adviser, Office of the President, following Mr. Mambangick Njie’s redeployment to the Foreign Service.

– Mr. Yusupha Y. Jobe is succeeded as Director General of the Public Utility & Regulatory Authority by Dr. Njogou N. Bah.

On Friday, March 15, 2024, the Cabinet reshuffle, which takes effect immediately, signifies a major reorganisation within the government.
