Mr. Lamin Queen Jammeh, the Spokesperson of the Nation People’s Party (NPP) and current Minister of Information, said the declaration of President Adama Barrow’s candidature for the 2026 presidential elections is premature as of now.

The above statement came after this medium received information suggesting that president Adama Barrow has been declared NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2026 presidential elections, and contacted the Party’s spokesperson who is currently the Minister of Information, to enquire how NPP elected their party’s flag bearer, and whether it was the executive who elected him or it was the general membership of the party, who did.

In his response to Foroyaa, the NPP Spokesperson said President Barrow made mention of his candidature for the 2026 presidential election during one of the party’s rallies in Kuntaur in the Niani District of the Central River Region of the Gambia.

“President Barrow during the meeting, told the congregation that he will meet them in 2026, which suggested his candidature,” he said.

Minister Jammeh continued: “Looking at the internal structures of the NPP, as of now Barrow stands to be the best candidate and as at now, he stands to be the NPP flag bearer.”

Jammeh said nobody changes a good wrestler and said if one has someone who understands what that person does; one does not change him or her like that.

The NPP Spokesperson said as of now, President Barrow’s candidature has not been officially declared, but he has all it takes to be the NPP’s Presidential candidate, come 2026.
