President Adama Barrow on Sunday accused incumbent Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda of turning the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) into a United Democratic Party (UDP) council.

” The taxes you pay should benefit you, but that is not happening in KMC. The council is only interested in promoting the UDP party. When they hold events, you only see yellow colors. They have turned the council into a UDP council, not a council for the people of KMC. This is unacceptable, because your money is paying for it. ” The president said.

The president also called on his party supporters and coalition partners to come out and vote for their candidates to avoid voter apathy. If we want to silence our opponents, NPP and our coalition partners must all come out and vote in the upcoming elections like we did in the presidential. If we win, they will have no choice but to stop talking and join us in developing the country. We cannot work and talk at the same time. Our opponents are only good at talking. They lost the presidential election and are now trying to stop President Adama from bringing more development to the country,” he said

President Barrow said winning at Banjul City Council, Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and West Coast Region will help him bring more developments in the country.

“If I have Ebou Faye in Banjul, Bakary Badjie in KM and Seedy Ceesay in West Coast, I will not need anything again,” Barrow said. “I will even go and sleep. But you cannot have an opposition council, if you say right, they say left. No meaningful development can be done in that environment. And that’s why we couldn’t do any during the past five years.”

“You, the residents of KMC, should not drag yourself back,” Barrow said. “You should vote for the NPP so that we can bring development to your community.”

On Bakary Badjie, the president said his Youth and sports minister has proven himself at the Youth ministry, this should be an opportunity to continue the work in KM.

“Bakary Badjie was your minister for the past three years, and you have seen what he has done. He developed sports. The Gambia have never quality for the African Cup of Nations, but we qualified for the first time. Our under-20 has quality for the World Cup for the first time. Our volleyball team are the African Champions. Our female athlete is the African Champion and the 11th fastest runner in the world. All these happened during his time. He built mini stadiums, and he’s currently building a big mini stadium at the Mboyo Field. He is renovating the National stadium for the first time since the establishment of the stadium. Bakary has already passed his test,” the president said.

The president also praised his candidates in Banjul and West Coast Region, saying all of them have proven themselves enough to be trusted for the job.

“All of our candidates are qualified and capable. Seedy has his own company and is a successful businessman. We all know him from his popular TV show on Qtv. Ebou Faye was the manager of the national stadium for many years. They have all proven their ability to get things done. If you are working, you should vote for people who will work hard for you. These are the people we have selected, and if you vote for them, it is like voting for me.” President Adama Barrow said
