The Judicial Officers Bill and the National Assembly Salary and Pension Bill were both postponed as a result of the recent protest, according to Bakary K. Badjie, the National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang Karanai Constituency.

Protesters deserve praise for their patriotic rejection of restrictive legislation that endangered our country’s future. Finally, in response to our persistent efforts, the National Assembly Salary and Pension Bill and the Judiciary Remuneration Bill have been shelved. We have made great progress: now we must maintain this rebellious attitude! The National Assembly Member vowed to keep fighting for equality and justice.

According to Hon. Badjie, no government employee in The Gambia receives a fair salary for their efforts. He brought attention to the fact that incomes are ‘discouragingly’ low in every industry, including those dealing with security, teaching, and nursing.

Nobody gets what they deserve for all the sacrifices they’ve made for our great country. Hence, there needs to be fair distribution of the national cake! Here we are, young people, prepared to keep fighting injustice if it gets in the way of our nation’s progress, he continued.
