UDP TO SUE SEEDY NJIE OVER MILITIA CLAIMS

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has threatened to take legal action against Seedy Njie, accusing him of making false claims about the party using armed militias.

Mr Njie, the deputy speaker of the National Assembly and spokesman for the ruling National People’s Party, alleged last week that the UDP deployed militias during the last presidential election to stop non-Mandinka voters from obtaining voter cards.

In response, the UDP dismissed the allegations as “false and lies,” condemning Njie’s remarks as unruly and dishonorable.

Speaking at a press conference where the party further refuted Njie’s claims, UDP has now threatened legal action against him, challenging him to provide tangible evidence of the party’s involvement with armed militias.

Dr. Lamin Manneh, a senior executive member of the UDP, condemned Njie’s allegations as dishonorable and said they should have led to his dismissal from government.

“We are going to sue him in court to present evidence that we have militias in this country going around intimidating people,” he said.

Dr. Manneh also criticized Njie’s behavior, calling it parasitic, and stated that Njie should have been arrested and prosecuted after returning from Equatorial Guinea for his role in supporting Jammeh’s stay in power in 2016, which led to thousands of Gambians fleeing to Senegal.

“He was a parasite on Gambian resources,” he said, referring to Seedy Njie, adding, “Seedy Njie has no qualifications, no skills, and he is living off the sweat of Gambian people.”

He challenged Njie to meet the party in court and prove his allegations with evidence.

Seedy Njie has yet to respond to the legal threat.
