River Gambia, Kanilai, ferry | For my video; youtu.be/x_ylNh… | FlickrThe Ministry of Information hereby updates the general public about an incident involving the Kanilai Ferry, which experienced engine failure near the turning buoy en route to the Barra Lander.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the ferry was unable to reach the lander and subsequently drifted towards the beach, becoming stuck near the fire service area.

We are pleased to report that all passengers aboard the ferry have been safely disembarked, with no reported injuries. Immediate response measures have been activated, with tug boats mobilized to assist in towing the ferry out during the next high tide, expected around 10:00 pm.

Key officials including the Chief of Staff, Minister of Transport, Minister of Defence, Army General, representatives from NDMA, GNPC and Ports Management are on the ground oversecing the situation and coordinating efforts.

The Ministry of Information will provide further updates as the situation progresses, particularly regarding the ongoing towing operations to remove the grounded ferry from the Barra end.
