Jaja Cham is a former CEO of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC). During his tenure, D1 million was approved for the purchase of spare parts for one of the council’s Caterpillar D9 machines.  Sarata Jaiteh, a procurement officer at the KMC, testified before the Local Government Commission, claiming that Jaja pressured her into approving the purchase request for the spare parts. Unhappy with Sarata’s statement, Jaja confronted her, reminding her that lying under oath is a serious sin with consequences. In response, Sarata informed the Commission that Jaja verbally threatened her.

Jaja, now the newly appointed CEO of the Janjang Bureh Area Council, was due to begin work this week. However, he was summoned by the Commission, arrested by the police, and subsequently remanded to Mile 2 prison for threatening a witness.
