United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and Secretary General, Lawyer Ousainu Darboe, has responded sharply to recent claims made by Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, describing the Citizens’ Alliance politician as “loud but lacking in substance.” Darboe was addressing members of the UDP’s Kanifing Diriyanké Kafo when he refuted accusations that UDP member Amadou Cora was involved in the controversial sale of former President Yahya Jammeh’s livestock.

“One of them claimed Amadou Cora was among those who sold Jammeh’s cattle. He’s loud, but he’s not intelligent,” Darboe remarked. “We all heard the president mention the Sheriff Division—an entity known for conducting property valuations before any sale. There’s nothing wrong with requesting pricing information. The damage was done by Adama Barrow, and ironically, the same person who once branded Barrow as ‘clueless’ is now trying to defend him. He lacks the credibility to do so.”

Darboe emphasized that the National People’s Party (NPP) and its affiliates are seeking to implicate the UDP in questionable dealings but insisted that the party remains untarnished.

“They’re trying to link Amadou Sanneh to the sale of Mega Bank, saying it happened under his watch as Finance Minister. But we know the facts. When we were in government, we acted with caution and integrity. In fact, Sanneh once blocked the sale of the bank. The sale only proceeded after he had left office,” Darboe said.

Reaffirming the UDP’s stance on transparency and national pride, Darboe urged all Gambians to act in the country’s best interest.

“To the NPP: if you are looking for corrupt officials, look elsewhere. They’ve even circulated a picture of me with cattle. Those cattle belong to Jerreh Ceesay, and the photo was taken at his farm. Those animals were not even sourced from The Gambia. He invited me to see his operation and asked for a young UDP supporter to assist him. I personally shared that photo. If the NPP wants to find corruption, they should start at the Office of the President. They will not find any within the UDP,” Darboe concluded.
