Police Yet To Make Arrests Over Face Covering

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) spokesperson, ASP Lamin Njie, said Friday the Police are yet to lawfully exercise their power to arrest people failing to comply with face mask rules as law enforcement officers are busy engaging the public about the dangers of not embracing the new regulations set out by health authorities.

“So far we have not received reports of any arrest yet. Our Officers are engaging the public, encouraging and sensitising people to increase compliance,” ASP Lamin Njie told this medium in response to an information request sent to him.

Gambians are still under shock after the Presidency broke out the news that the highest office of the land has been hit by the deadly virus. Vice-President Dr. Isatou Touray has been tested COVID-19 positive, prompting President Adama Barrow to self-quarantine for two weeks.

Meanwhile, health authorities on Tuesday reported 326 confirmed cases of Coronavirus. Eight people have so far gone down with COVID-19.
