SENEGAL: 9 DEATHS AMIDST MASS PROTESTS AGAINST WHAT IS SEEN AS A POLITICALLY MOTIVATED TRIAL AGAINST SONKO

The verdict convicting Ousmane Sonko sparked violent protests, resulting in extensive property damage and loss of life. In order to inform national and international opinion, the Minister of the Interior, Antoine Félix Diome, organized a press briefing in the presence of the government spokesman, Abdou Karim Fofana, and the Minister of Communication, Moussa Bocar Thiam. During this conference, the Minister of the Interior made a tragic assessment of this bloody day.
“We noted with regret violence that led to the destruction of public and private property and unfortunately 9 deaths in Dakar and Ziguinchor,” he revealed.On behalf of the President of the Republic, the Minister of the Interior expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
