The Caliph General of the Mourides sent dates to Ousmane Sonko, a way of asking him to end his hunger strike. Serigne Mountakha Mbacké sent the package to the delegation of Yewwi Askan Wi who went to visit him in Touba on Tuesday.

This episode was not initially on the menu for Habib Sy et Cie’s trip to the religious city. It was at the end of this that the idea came to ask the guide of the Mourides to take a strong action in the direction of convincing Ousmane Sonko to agree to eat. According to L’Observateur, which provides the information, the choice had to be made between mineral water and dates.

The second option will then be chosen. And to be able to provide the president of Pastef with proof that the dates actually come from Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, the Yewwi delegation asked the latter for permission to film the scene of the offering. Request accepted by the religious.

L’Observateur reports that Maïmouna Bousso was then responsible for filming the scene with her phone.
