SENEGAL: PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION MARCH 24TH: EU ANNOUNCES THE DEPLOYMENT OF ITS OBSERVERS TO SENEGAL

Following the revision of the electoral calendar setting the presidential election for March 24 and the electoral campaign from March 9 to 22, the European Union Electoral Observation Mission in Senegal (EU EOM), present in the country since on January 13 at the invitation of the Senegalese authorities, continues all of its activities in accordance with the new deadlines.

“The Mission takes note of the new electoral calendar and observes the progress of the electoral campaign as well as the preparations for the vote. We call for full respect for freedoms of expression, of the press, of access to offline and online information, and of assembly during this campaign,” declared Malin Björk, head of the EU EOM who will be return to Senegal on March 20.

“We recall the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates during the electoral campaign. In this regard, we take note of the release, on March 14, of one of the candidates for the presidential election who was kept in detention, and hope that it will contribute to the conduct of a peaceful and violence-free campaign. , specified Malin Björk.
