BANJUL, 23 September 2021: The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, held bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers of the Republics of Greece and Cyprus with a view to take forward and deepen bilateral relations with the countries. The meeting occurred on the margins of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
On Monday 20 September 2021, Foreign Minister Tangara had a 20 minutes bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic of Greece, His Excellency Mr. Nikos Dendias.
Among the many pertinent issues discussed were the importance of migration and the extraordinary circumstance of Covid-19 pandemic. The two Foreign Ministers agreed on making better and regular migration. As the top diplomats end the meeting, H.E. Mr. Nikos Dendias offered to assist The Gambia with some Covid-19 vaccines in the near future.
Still on his diplomatic engagements, the Honourable Foreign Minister on Tuesday 21 September 2021 met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus. The fruitful meeting covered matters of mutual interest in the areas of migration and its root causes. Dr. Tangara expressed willingness to work closely with the European Union and counterparts to address migration at its roots. The Honourable Minister expressed delight and gratitude for the generous offer of vaccines as he looks forward to receiving them in Banjul.
For his part, His Excellency Mr. Nikos Christodoulides highlighted the need to commit the European Union to solve the root causes of migration. He offered to provide vaccines to help increase the vaccination rate in The Gambia.
