Current Role: As of recently, Mr. Jawara holds the position of Director of Ship Registry and Registrar of Shipping & Seafarers at the GMA.

Previous Roles at Gambia Ports Authority (GPA): He started his career as a Cadet Marine Engineer in 1997 and rose through the ranks to Director of Technical Services, Ferries Division. He also served as the General Manager of the Gambia Ferry Services, a subsidiary company of the GPA, before being sent on administrative leave in July 2023.

International Experience: He worked briefly at the New York City Ferry Services as an Engineering Projects Manager and Fleet Maintenance Supervisor from 2017 to 2020.

Education & Expertise: A chartered marine engineer and a research scientist, he holds an MSc in Marine Technology and is a PhD candidate researching climate change governance in global shipping at the World Maritime University.
