President Adama Barrow said one of the reasons he appointed the late Vice President Badara Alieu Joof was because he was not after his position. “He left a big gap. We will pray to have someone like Badara. To have that kind of person will not be easy. Certain things convinced me to make him my vice president. I believe that he has the knowledge, and knows how to run the government, and the president wants someone who knows government and can advise him about government. I also wanted someone who is honest and wants to work for his country.

“I wanted a vice president, who will be someone who will not campaign to take your position. I never wanted that kind of person. Badara passed all these I mentioned. He was not after my position. He was working for me and working for the Gambia. That was the reason he got that position. To get that kind of person is not easy. But I will pray to God to help with someone who will do more than what Badara did,” the president said at the late VP’s residence in Banjulinding on Monday.

The late Badara Alieu Joof was the vice president of the Gambia until his demise after a short illness while on treatment in India. He previously served as the Minister of Higher Education Research Science and Technology during president Adama Barrow’s first term
